PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The negative sentiment entered its fourth day at the Stock Exchange of Mauritius equity markets trading session. The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 211.691 billion after dropping MUR 932 million (about US$26.2 million) compared to previous market capitalization of MUR 212.623 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) fell by 0.44 percent or 8.37 points to close at 1,900.93 and SEM10 index sagged by 0.49 percent or 1.78 points to end at 362.99 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 1,568,210 (a fall relative to volume of 48,508,706 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 40.819 million (a fall relative to MUR 146.912 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 844,800 (about 53.87 percent of total volume) at MUR 701,184 and New Mauritius Hotels registered 188,135 traded stocks amounted to MUR 3.300 million. CIEL Limited traded 122,355 at MUR 829,567 and MCB Group recorded a total volume of 153,957 shares at MUR 32.120 million. Mauritius Development Investment Trust also recorded 99,644 shares at MUR 498,284.
Looking at the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 29 traded securities there were 2 price leaders and 16 price laggards, hence the market sentiment ended negative. Plastic Industry Mauritius Limited added 5.22 percent to end at MUR 70.50 and Fincorp Investment Limited soared by 0.79 percent to settle at MUR 19.20.
On the laggards’ tablet, ENL Commercial Limited closed at MUR 19.45 after sagging by 4.89 percent and New Mauritius Hotels slumped by 2.23 percent to settle at MUR 17.50. Also, Mauritius Development Investment Trust fell by 1.57 percent to settle at MUR 5.00, SBM Holdings plunged by 1.19 to trade at MUR 0.83 and OMNICANE Limited declined by 1.09 percent to end at MUR 68.25.
The DEMEX index closed at 205.22 points after dropping 0.44 points or 0.21 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 50.458 billion after losing MUR 108 million (relative to MUR 50.566 billion recorded at previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 2.866 million exchanged in 188,759 traded securities. SODIA Limited surged by 1.69 percent to trade at MUR 0.60. However, CONSTANCE Limited dipped by 9.91 percent to end MUR 100.00 and Union Sugar Estate Limited slipped by 5.44 percent to conclude at MUR 40.00. Also, ENL Limited (Preference) sagged by 0.74 percent to settle at MUR 26.80 and ENL Investment Limited tumbled by 0.31 to settle at MUR 48.45.
